Originally from Ireland, I currently live in Australia where I work as the national translations manager at a language services provider in Melbourne. After graduating from Dublin City University with a BA in Applied Languages, I worked firstly as a German technical translator for SAP and then made the leap into management. In my current role, I develop my company’s translation strategy roadmap and support business planning, budgets, and reporting to align with the overarching organisational goals. I manage a team of inhouse translation project managers, and a global pool of translators, editors, and desktop publishing specialists to drive large multilingual projects. The field of translation and technical communication is a rapidly evolving area and I am always eager to keep myself informed of industry trends. I believe the TCLoc Master’s degree will give me the opportunity to hone my skills, keep my finger on the industry pulse and expertly inform the direction of my department.

I'm originally from Western New York and live in Amman, Jordan. I have BA and MA degrees in English and I work as an editor of texts translated from Arabic, primarily, though also Farsi and Kurdish and, in the past, Dari and Pashto. In recent years, I've generated and edited content for media and government websites and for NGOs and clients in the Swiss technology sector. I love tailoring language for target audiences, especially across radically different cultures. It's quite a lot like chess – an infinite game in which each move has multifarious consequences a player must learn to anticipate. I find that sort of strategizing very exciting and I'm confident the TCLoc program is going to help me strengthen that skill set and teach me some vital new ones.

I earned my undergraduate degrees in the United States at the University of Washington in Seattle. I also obtained a professional Certificate in Technical Writing and Communication, and worked as a technical writer and editor for T-Mobile and Expedia.com.In 2011, I moved to Strasbourg from the US, and I’ve been working for the Council of Europe for the past four years. As an editor both in communications and the Directorate of Programmes, I enjoyed working on a wide variety of documents, such as reports, speeches, press releases, public statements, and other texts, both for the public and for stakeholders. If I were to imagine the perfect master’s program, TCloc would be it. It perfectly draws on the skills and experience I already have, and I look forward to expanding my skills to new areas, such as localization and project management.

Upon receiving my Bachelor’s in English Literature from the University of Michigan, I moved to Japan to teach English as a foreign language. After a few years spent teaching, I switched to a corporate role training new teachers, developing educational materials, and localizing the general curriculum for a Japanese classroom. This was where I developed a strong interest in localization as a discipline. I chose to continue my education with the TCLoc program to be able to continue developing these skills and learn their application in a more technically-focused context. My goal is to apply what I learn toward large-scale projects with a global reach.

I was born in Italy and, from childhood, I was always interested in learning different languages and getting in touch with other cultures. That’s why I travelled a lot and worked in many different cities. I’m currently living in Berlin, where I gained experience as a technical translator, editor and proof-reader. Italian is my mother tongue and I have a very good command of English, German, French as well as Brazilian Portuguese. After obtaining a BA degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, I attended the first year of CAWEB Master’s Degree at the University of Strasbourg. I am now bent on completing my studies with the TCLoc’s distance-learning program, since the subject material covered is of great interest to me, as it reflects my career goals. Thanks to my varied professional experience – especially in international environments, multilingual communication and online marketing – I could strengthen my abilities in localization by pursuing this master’s. I would also like to gain in-depth technical communication skills.

I have attained native-speaker competence in German and a good working knowledge of Spanish. I have an expert Technical Communicator certification from tekom as well as several years of professional experience translating and managing English documentation in the railway industry, where I developed a strong interest in technical writing processes and, especially, the optimization of such processes. Furthermore, it would help me obtain a deeper understanding of localization and provide me with a Master’s degree.

Since earning my BA in Linguistics, I've lived in the tech-dense area of Seattle. Currently, I work as a Linguistic Consultant at Acrolinx where I help enterprise customers improve their content at scale on an AI platform.
